My narrative game prototype has been completed and a full game playthrough is available to view below. Credit for the video goes to Pratik another member of my group who helped create this prototype, permission to use the video was given by the video's creator before this blog's creation.
Our prototype features our game's intro sequence of a larger narrative that we had to create for this module. This intro's sequence structure is as follows:
Cutscene of our main character Theodore waking up and asking his wife Isabelle where they're son Timmy is.
Gameplay segment that lets the player walk around Theodore's house and interact with different objects around his house that trigger a voice line from Theodore.
Cutscene where Theodore plays football with Timmy outside before the ground shakes and the sky turns red which leads to Kage the main villian arriving through a portal and starts talking to Theodore about the past and demaning an artifact called the chaos key. Theodore remembers who Kage is and is determined to defeat him again.
Gameplay that involves 3rd person shooting against enemy demons as they come out of portals. The next cutscene plays if the player loses all their health.
Cutscene of Theodore lying injured on the ground and Kage kidnapping his family as ransom for the Chaos Key.
There are mulitple interactions events throughout the house that can be triggered by going near them as Theodore after the first cutscene. The locations of each of these voicelines are the bed, the shower, the kid toys on the living room table and Isabelle who is sitting down in the kitchen.
The game makes extensive use of the timeline feature in unity in order to operate the cutscenes, the timeline allows for movement and control of game objects, models and the camera to create a cinematic experience in your unity games. Animations and sounds can also be assigned on the timeline to play over the cutscenes.
The characters in our game is voiced by members of our group. Theodore is voiced by Kristian, Kage is voiced by me, Timmy is voiced by Jaspreet and Isabelle was attempted to be voiced by Pratik but was not satified with producing a female voice so we used an AI female voice instead.
